Tyler Rix


- Tyler started playing the saxophone at the age of 9 and quickly reached grade 5 within just 1 1/2 years of playing. He passed his grade 5 saxophone exam with distinction.

- In 2003 Tyler joined junior Guildhall at the Barbican and is still there now on Saturdays. He has recently been awarded a scholarship at Junior Guildhall and won the BBC Fame Academy Bursary application for a new instrument in 2007

- Tyler excels in sport and was signed to West Ham Football club at the age of 8, becoming the fastest signing to date, playing into his teens

- In 2006 Tyler passed Grade 8 Saxophone with honours, he then joined the Dame Alice Owen school participating in the school football team and helping them win the biggest cup around - the nationals.

- In 2007, Tyler auditioned for BBC 2’s Classical Star, where he reached the final 5 and left the show in the penultimate round.

- Tyler has now signed a recording contract with Universal Classics and Jazz and began recording his first album in February 2008.

- On July 12th Tyler won Junior Guildhall's most prestigious award, The Lutine Prize, in a showcase of young talent at the Guildhall School. Tyler beat five other finalists with a programme including a Bach sonata and the first movement of Spanish composer Pedro Itturalde's Pequena Czarda. His prize includes the chance to perform with a top Junior Guildhall ensemble as well as a cash award.
